Anna Isatou Bah, born in Faji Kunda, The Gambia, is an autodidactic artist known for her wide-ranging creativity.

During her early school years, she excelled in Visual Arts, experimenting with batik (tie and dye), natural pigments, and diverse techniques. The loss of her father interrupted her artistic journey, as she devoted herself to supporting her mother and sisters.

Since 2019, Isatou Bah has reignited her creative practice, working with upcycled materials to produce sculptures and vibrant, powerful paintings in the style of Art Brut. Her mixed-media works on canvas and wood have been exhibited and collected by craft markets and private collectors in The Gambia.

In 2025, she began studying and reviving forgotten West African art forms, particularly woodcut and linocut printing techniques. She is recognized as the only professional female artist in these techniques in West Africa.

Anna is an artist and educator specializing in relief carving and printmaking. In 2026/2027, she will lead and participate in workshops across Africa, the United Kingdom, and Spain, sharing her passion for creativity and cultural exchange. Her work invites people of all backgrounds to explore, learn, and connect through the art of relief printing.

INVITATIONS

June 2026 - Anna has been invited to participate in the prestigious ART27 - Artist Residency.

As part of this residency, she will produce commissioned paintings with an estimated value of 60,000 GMD. This significant support not only affirms her artistic talent but also provides the means to sustain her practice during the challenging rainy season, traditionally regarded as the low season.
